My mother is a hairdresser and I've never paid for a haircut in my entire life. But now, moving several states away, I can't just wait for a visit home to get a haircut anymore.
And I was going crazy with my hair and it was looking really bad.
I finally set up an appointment with a stylist that Wendy had gotten a haircut from and had a good experience.
I know this is normal stuff for everyone else, but for this freak, it was a new experience.
$30 for a haircut people tell me is high, but I can't imagine paying less for that skill level of the stylist. I'm going to go back. Overall a good experience and my hair is now shorter again.

I know it's a bit weird, but you get used to it.
Consider yourself lucky you've got a good one.
I had to go through roughly 10 of them before I found one who really knew what they were doing!
P.S. The cost will go up a bit, if you have to dye it. (Not that I have any experience with that) ;)
I hate to tell you Tony, but $30 is about right for a good hairdresser. I usually pay about $25 for just a trim on my hair. But you add tip, and if the style it for you, that adds money as well.
Honestly I would've thought it would be cheaper for a guy to get a haircut, but apparently not. I guess a cut is a cut. Hope you at least like you hair now.
Having only had three different people cut my hair, I can say that I know what you're talking about. In college I would wait until I could go home to see "Jerry" my barber. Before that it was Rita. Since I now live too far from home to go see Jerry, I started going to a small barbershop in Wheaton. It took a lot to get me out there, but I'm glad I went. Three guys, all old, all have been there over 20 years. You walk in and 10-15 minutes later you have a great haircut. Cost: $12. Greatest part is that they open at 5am so I can go before work.
Here's the tip:
keep growing your hair until people start giving you funky looks. Then, when they are just about to pounce on you with a "freaking hippie" diatribe, remind them you're growing your hair for the (sic) Make a Wig Foundation.
Boy will they feel stoopid.
My Word Verification was "putun"
